It is my distinct pleasure to be able to provide input for the FBC blog this week. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Pastor for Youth and Children over the past two years. I relinquish these responsibilities knowing full well that they will be placed in very capable hands that will direct those ministries toward the necessary path for success in the future. My time as pastor for these ministries was truly challenging and rewarding. I am proud of the fact that I was able to keep the Children’s Ministry running while I was building up the Student Ministry from scratch, and God has blessed us with gains in both areas, but we can go further!
I certainly could not have accomplished the success that we did have without significant help and support from the staff and volunteers. From our staff, I want to give a definite shout-out to Chris Culpepper and Amy Grossenbacher for their tremendous contributions to the Children’s Ministry and Student Ministry, exemplifying how all ministries are connected and need to integrate in order to thrive.
We’ve had tremendous dedication from volunteers to ensure these programs’ needs are met and I really believe that the volunteers are the heart and backbone of this church. I want to recognize just a few that have been tremendous supporters and encouragers for me and the ministries. For the Student Ministry, Mike Mills and Steve Simmons have been stalwart supporters, mentors, and friends. John Farber helped out tremendously by driving the teens to our weekly meeting the first year, and, when his work schedule changed, Don and Judy Demers were able to pick up the slack. I also had great support and participation from the parents. Thank you Barbara Ellison, Mona Disla, Karen Denehy, Tom and Michelle Schultz, and Scott and Tonya Rivera for your help in both ministries.
For the Children’s Ministry, I have to definitely give accolades to Laura Anderson and all the work she did to ensure Sunday morning childcare and classes were taken care of, properly scheduled, staffed, and supplied with teachers and resources. I couldn’t have done it without her. I also want to give a huge shout-out of love and respect to the one who taught me the ropes for Children’s Ministry and was always there to guide and provide help to ensure that the ministry did not miss a beat and that is Tarsha Ahmad, who continues to provide support and love for this church.
Lastly, but not leastly, I want to thank Pastor Glen and Pastor Phil, for the opportunity to serve in the capacity as a pastor, and to thank them for their mentorship and guidance. I can tell you personally that it is not an easy job. Church, take care of your pastors! I know there are many others that I am thankful for over the past two years that have assisted me in one form or another and I apologized if I haven’t named you all (i.e., the maintenance guys, Promiseland teachers, etc…), but I am greatly beholden to you all. I know God has a next step for me, another chapter, but I won’t be a stranger to FBC; I’ll still be around and will continue to support both ministries in any way I can. I would ask the church to continue to provide great support and even more so to the new pastors, Aimee Hobbs and Sara Hunt-Felke, to ensure success in those ministries. Those children are our future. Thank you and God bless…hoo-ahh!!
