New Year, New Opportunities

by Chris Culpepper

Oh, my church family. Words cannot express the pure joy this December has brought to me and my family. We are officially a family of four and have been showered with so much prayer and love from each of you that again, words cannot express the thanks we have to you.

As we all look back over 2017, we can see so many ups and downs. Whether it be personally, locally, and even nationally, we still have so much to be grateful for. As we cross over into 2018, there are so many new opportunities that come with a new year. God’s promises come to mind when I think of a new year. We can hold strong to each one of them no matter what year we are in. They are easily forgotten, though, as our minds are clouded with the everyday craziness of life.

Here a few for you to keep fresh in your mind:
Exodus 14:14 “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Isaiah 40:29 “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

As a church, we have so many amazing opportunities to look towards in 2018. Some have already been revealed like serving (there are always opportunities to serve at FBC!). Other opportunities will come through the natural, organic church life we take part in week in and week out. This church life doesn’t just happen inside the walls of the church but outside of them as well. We have an amazing opportunity to represent our church as we welcome Sandi Patty, coming in February. January 3rd, we resume choir rehearsal and here is YOUR opportunity. To any and all who have a voice able to sing, I invite you to join us and fill the stage. You can ask any current choir member, we have fun, sing some pretty neat stuff, and we always sing in the name of Jesus.

Have a blessed and safe New Year!
